August Olsson

Like Klas Oskar Löfgren and John Alfred Lefgren, this is the story of two brothers, one remaining in Sweden and the other immigrating to America. August Olsson remained in Sweden while his brother, Anders Gustaf Olsson, immigrated to America in 1888. This story explains how Barbro Bogelius is third cousin to Nancy Lefgren Porter and Judy Lefgren McCracken.

The brother who emigrated, Anders Gustaf Olsson, was married in 1871 to Johanna Johansdotter. They immigrated to Council Bluffs, Iowa, with their six children. One of the six children was Anna Lydia Olsson, Nancy’s and Judy’s grandmother. Anna Lydia married John Albin Lefgren, Daryl’s great uncle, in 1902.

Anna Lovisa Olsson married Karl Emil Lustig and they also lived in Hasslösa in a house very near her parents’ house. Today, both houses still stand and are within an easy stroll, one from the other. Their daughter, Margareta Lovisa, was born May 9, 1913. Margareta is Barbro’s mother. Today Barbro and her husband, Åke Bogelius, live in the same house where her grandparents lived.

Barbro and Åke are members of ancestry.com and discovered Anna Lydia Olsson on the Hallquist family tree. It was an important discovery for them because they did not know what had happened to the descendants of Anders Gustaf Olsson. When Barbro and Åke contacted Daryl and Anne online, they provided the ancestry of Anna Lydia Olsson of which Daryl and Anne were ignorant. Barbro and Åke met Judy and Nancy in Sweden in May and June of 2012 and will meet another cousin, Emma Jones, in June of 2013, when they journey to America.
